Ho Ho Honk! Malta’s First-Ever Drive-Thru Christmas Is Coming To Crafts Village Ta’ Qali This December
Thousands of fairy lights, interactive concerts, and an artisan market are all coming to Christmas in Malta this year…. but in 2020 fashion, the cars aren’t getting left behind!
Local comedy duo Danusan are behind the first edition of The Malta Christmas Drive-Thru, a new experience in Crafts Village, Ta’Qali promising all the fun of a good old Christmas festival for the whole family, with a timely level of safety and security added into the seasonal festivities.
It might’ve started with the desire to still celebrate Christmas in these uncertain, pandemic-era times, but what the Malta Christmas Drive-Thru ended up being was a whole lot more. In fact, what started out as a need to end 2020 on a higher, entertaining note quickly developed into a classic case of seasonal compassion.
“We had the opportunity to visit the Crafts Village on other business and one of the exhibitors pointed out that his sales had been €0 for the previous few days,” Daniel from Danusan recalled. “We felt sorry for him since it’s very easy to relate to his situation during COVID times. That was the moment that sparked the beginning of this adventure.”
And so, the idea was born; bring Christmas to Crafts Village, Ta’ Qali, and with it, an opportunity to revive this essential and delicate industry in the area.
“We looked at many variations of our event and ways to hold the event safely for our guests, from line control to hand sanitising stations,” Danusan said of the initial preparations. “But we felt that for 2020, we have to step up and think in different terms and we ultimately decided that a drive-thru makes the most sense.”
Eventually, an entire team got involved, and the result became just what the event promises on the tin; a one-kilometre, drive-thru experience which sees people enjoying the festivities from the comfort and security of their own vehicles.
Using a reservation system, the event will be opening during the evenings (from 5pm till late), from 11th December until 3rd January. The entrance ticket fee is €15, but in proper 2020 fashion yet again, attendees will be getting that amount back in the form of vouchers!
You’ll be able to exchange €5 of the vouchers on food and drink on the night you visit, with the remaining €10 being redeemable at the Artisans Exhibiting Area at the crafts village when spending €25 or more. This, on the other hand, is valid until the 6th January.
“This gives us the opportunity to provide something special for our community that holds the Christmas tradition to heart,” Danusan said of the event and the uplifting initiative at the very heart of it all.
But of course, it also gave organisers to transform a space like Crafts Village, Ta’ Qali into a veritable Christmas village… featuring the help of band clubs, carnival companies and so much more.
The Malta Christmas Drive-Thru will feature a beautiful light tunnel, a rock stage, magician police… and even a “snow car wash”!
That’s right – this journey offers a long host of attractions, with attendees being invited to drive beneath tunnels of light, dash through the snow, and so much more.
Oh, and we might not have freezing temperatures in December, but that doesn’t mean attendees can’t actually enjoy a snow fight!
But that’s not all – the area close to the National Park will actually be transformed for the occasion, creating an interactive, jovial experience directly involving the audience behind the wheel.
The CAR-aoke Live Show featuring Tiziana Calleja, Rodney Gauci, Amber Bondin, Mario Cassar, Lee-N Abela, and J. Anvil Is intended to warm the hearts of Many this Christmas. Following the Drive-Thru Experience inside Santa’s village families inside their cars can flock into this drive-in show and enjoy 25 minutes of laughter, sing along, horn honking, and light blinking fun. The show will present a mixture of laugh out loud gags combined with some great singing.
There’s so much to do for the whole family condensed into the one-kilometre experience, and it really needs a whole map to be fully appreciated.
Tickets for the event are already available online, but we wouldn’t suggest waiting too long on them!
Sure, Christmas might feel like it’s a long way away, but we’ve actually only got two weeks to go until December. So deck the halls, get your green and red outfits on, and get ready to drive your way to a safe but super festive Christmas.
