Here’s What Went Down At The Fabulous Launch Of The New BMW X2
BMW launched their newest venture, the X2 last Friday, and Lovin Malta was there for the big day. The X2 is the latest in BMW’s line of crossover sports vehicles, and is just as glamorous in real life as it appears to be on its sleek brochure.
Everything kicked off on Friday night – we were greeted to two brand new X2 models which were poised atop the St. George’s Bay skyline, gracing the sleek rooftop deck of Hugo’s Infinity Lounge. The first, a metallic gold, sparkled over the deck’s iconic infinity pool, and seemed to draw the most attention. A second model in pristine white was available for public viewing, with BMW representatives on hand to show off the car’s most notable features.
Hype surrounding the newest line of BMW’s SAV line has been mounting, particularly in light of the X2’s surprise appearance just a couple of days earlier while being hoisted up 11 storeys. The X2 is itself the 6th model in the BMW X series, being one of two new lines being released this year alongside the BMW X7.
As we enjoyed our welcome drink of Moët & Chandon champagne (and then some), we took the opportunity to tour the facilities and showcase the best of both the X2 and Hugo’s Infinity Lounge through live updates on our Instagram channel. Bathed in swathes of purple light and plenty of room, the Infinity Lounge allowed us to experience the X2 in complete comfort with the delights of luxury life in arm’s reach.
Once we’d taken a moment to check out the awesome digs BMW had set itself up in, we decided to experience the X2 up close. The car itself was sleek and aerodynamic, sporting a bold motto emblazoned across its doors: “be the one who dares.”
It has all the classic BMW markers with a few noticeable updates, including striking new alloy designs, newly-inset double tailpipes, and a redesigned double kidney grille. Other unique features that caught our eye were the lightly shaded side skirts, the continuous wheel arches, and the wide panoramic glass roof.
As crossover sports vehicles go, it certainly seems compact and a breath of fresh air for those worrying about where to park a bulky SAV in Malta. Almost deceptively so, as a quick step into the vehicle proved its interior is both spacious and lavishly designed.
The driver’s seat in particular underlines BMW’s commitment to a holistic driving experience, with everything from the console to the upholstery seemingly built around the owner in an almost cockpit-like fashion.
Feature favourites like the space-age heads up display and the iDrive interactive console both make a return, while playful new designs like the optional ambient light add an extra layer of chic to the interior.
If it’s an eco-friendly ride you’re after, we’ve got you covered too. The BMW X2 is riding the wave of low carbon dioxide emissions and ridiculously low fuel consumption, with figures like 4.6 litres per 100 km still having us rechecking the brochure.
All in all, we’re expecting the X2 to be a major game changer in the realm of crossover vehicles, and would love ourselves a gold X2 ASAP. Or a white one. We can’t decide. Let us know what your favourite is in the comments section down below.
