Here’s 5 Healthy Ways You Can Eat Granola With A Maltese Twist
Vegans (and healthy eaters) rejoice! Kellogg’s has just launched the new W.K.Kellogg range of cereals that are completely plant-based. The new range includes 2 variants of no added sugar granolas and one variant of ancient grain flakes.
Want to know how nutritious they are? Well first of all, they are high in fiber, contain no added sugar, no artificial colours and flavours, are suitable for vegans and the best part is that they taste yummy.
If you want to get a little creative in the kitchen, then we have five dishes you can make using their special granolas as the show-stopping ingredients. Plus they’re totally easy to make.

1. Breakfast: Granola Parfait with Local Citrus Fruits
What you’ll need:
– 35g W.K.Kellogg Apricot & Pumpkin Seeds Granola
– 1 cup Greek yoghurt
– 1 vanilla pod
– 1tsp Maltese honey
– More granola
– Local citrus
Mix in the chopped vanilla pod into the Greek yoghurt. Place some granola in a jar and top with the yogurt mix, honey, some more granola and finally the local citrus. (We used Maltese tangerines and oranges.)
2. Elevenses: Protein Granola Balls with Local Honey
What you’ll need:
– 60g W.K.Kellogg Coconut, Cashew & Almond Granola
– 50g dried figs
– a pinch of cinnamon
– 20g coconut oil
– 1tsp Maltese honey
– More cinnamon
Put all the ingredients into a blender, roll into balls, refrigerate and garnish more cinnamon.
3. Lunch: Granola Salad with Pomegranate and Ġbejna
What you’ll need:
– W.K.Kellogg Apricot & Pumpkin Seeds Granola
– olive oil
– pepper & salt
– 50g local pomegranate
– 50g chickpeas
– 1 peppered ġbejna
– 200g local rucola
– Dressing (1 tsp olive oil, lemon, 1/2 spring onion, salt and pepper)
Lay the granola on an oven-proof dish, and add olive oil, salt and pepper. Mix around the ingredients and pop in the oven for 8 minutes. Stir in the pomegranate, chickpeas, ġbejna and dressing in a bowl and add it to a bed of local rucola. Top the salad with the toasted granola.
4. Teatime: Granola-based Ottini
What you’ll need:
– 200g W.K.Kellog Super Grains Granola
– 50g sugar
– 100g butter
– 1 egg white
– Sesame seeds
Blend the granola. Add sugar, butter and blend some more. Add the egg white and blend even further. Mould the dough into ottijiet, place onto a baking tray and top with sesame seeds. Bake for 15 mins at 200°C.
5. Dinner: Maltese Butternut Vegan Steak Roasted in Granola
What you’ll need:
– 70g W.K.Kellogg Coconut, Cashew & Almond Granola
– 1 Maltese butternut squash
– sunflower seeds
– pumpkin seeds
– paprika
– salt and pepper
– 1 fresh garlic
Cut one butternut squash into wheels, then put aside in an oven-proof dish. Then blend together the granola, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, olive oil, paprika, salt, pepper and garlic. Place the bended mix on the butternut squash wheels, these are vegan steaks!
Cover the vegan steaks in foil and bake in the oven for 20 minutes at 200°C, remove foil and bake for another 3 minutes to toast the crumble.
Serving tip: Place the vegan steaks on a bed of quinoa and decorate the plate with roasted beetroot.
