Maltese Lovers Of Whisky Rejoice; Your Favourite Weekend Is Back

If you’ve ever found yourself craving a delicious glass of whisky, you’re in for a treat. For the second year, The Malta Whisky Fair is back this November for two nights, and it’s set to be even bigger and better than the last one.

The idea behind hosting a fair entirely around whisky was conceived when Andrew Abela from the Wine Boutique FRANKS realised that, while there’s been a growing trend in the luxury whisky market, many people weren’t getting the opportunity to try the huge variety of malts available.

And speaking of “huge variety”, the organisers aren’t fooling around; this year’s Whisky Fair is offering over 200  different whiskies to try out.

Thanks to FRANKS suppliers, the event will be hosting five brand ambassadors from the world’s leading distilleries. Each ambassador will be offering patrons the chance of participating in a master class. Due to the limited amount of time, each one will have to be pre-booked once the ticket is bought online.

Friday’s show will incorporate Diageo (owners of the likes of Lagavulin, Oban, Glenkinchie and Caol ila), Macallan and a master class by Mr Konrad Pirotta on the effects of oak on whisky.

Saturday, on the other hand, will host master classes by Chivas, Dewars and Springbank. All this will be coupled with those 200+ whiskies, from single malts, to bourbons and blends.

Of course, this staggering number doesn’t even incorporate the super deluxe whiskies that each supplier shall be offering with the purchase of individual tokens. We’re talking the Glenfarclas 30, the Glenkinchie 26 and the Teeling 26. And if you love whisky, you know what’s up.

In case you happen to be at the fair with someone who’s into more than just whisky, the event will also have free-flowing Barolos and Chablis on the night, delicious Italian red and French white wines. There will also be a temporary cigar bar set up, just to add that much more fanciness to the weekend.

Of course, all that whisky, free flowing wine and cigars need the perfect location for an immersive atmosphere, and luckily for the Malta Whisky Fair, they’ve got that too. The two-night event will be held in the regal surroundings of the Phoenicia Ballroom, with the Phoenicia’s spacious gardens hosting the cigar bar.

FRANKS suppliers will be launching a variety of new whiskies during the weekend’s fair, including this year’s Limited Edition Pendryn Guze finish Single cask, Single Malt. As with its predecessors, the idea behind this unique Single Malt is to create a limited edition high quality whisky aged in a “Guze” barrel, one of Malta’s most iconic wines, bottled specifically for FRANKS & Master cellars.

The Malta Whisky Fair 2017 will be going down on Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th of November. Tickets for the event (which include free-flowing water, nibbles and access to the 200 whiskies on offer) can be exclusively bought here .
