HILA’s specialised services are heavily based on the services’ tagline, Believe Achieve, and go far beyond those of any other day centre or nursery. Parents of children with disabilities are also given a safe space in which they know their child is being cared for by trained professionals who, true to the name of the service, are focusing their activities according to the child’s ability. 

While its members strive to remove the social barriers the stigma tied to having a disability still holds up, HILA Homes CEO Janet Silvio explained that there is still a long way to go: “Whether it is a temporary condition or a lifetime diagnosis, we need to understand that this does not define a person. We are all subject to vulnerability and can heal through acceptance.”

HILA currently operates from two different settings but will soon make its home in a third:

Casa Apap Bologna 

This houses residential clients who live in a home within their community and are given the tools they need to live a dignified and inclusive life. Around 200 clients of Casa Apap Bologna also have access to the centre’s respite services. 

Casal Nuovo

A first-of-its-kind centre that specializes in the de-institutionalization of persons from Mount Carmel Hospital. 

Santa Rosa 

This will reflect the services offered at Casa Apap Bologna with a particular focus on challenging behaviour in children and adolescents. All services will be provided within a new state-of-the-art home that will provide a safe and loving space where clients with specific needs can receive the care they need. 

CareMalta Group also supports Malta’s leading therapy centre, Hand in Hand, which offers an array of services from centre-based therapy and home intervention to school and community-based support and LSE and teacher training. 

As it celebrates its 30th year, CareMalta has firmly entrenched itself as  Malta’s market leader in specialized and independent care for the elderly, and through Hila has branched into care for persons with disability. In its earlier stages, Vassallo Group Founder Nazzareno Vassallo and then CareMalta Groupe CEO Natalie Briffa Farrugia began to concretize the many requests which had been received in the past about offering services to persons with disability apart from the elderly.
