Swieqi Is About To Show Malta How A Family Festival Is Done
If you were thinking of doing, well, anything this weekend – stop thinking that. You and your joy-seeking family all need to head to Swieqi for the village’s annual arts, culture and sports festival.
If you haven’t been in the past five years (yup, that’s how long it’s been successfully running) then you’re in serious family-fun-debt. If you have been before, then you know it’s going to be a grenade bomb of awesomeness!
Swieqi Festival has been happening since 2012 and it’s all about promoting art, sport, culture and music. If you’re interested in checking out the best of local talent from Swieqi and beyond, then it’s definitely where you want to be next weekend.
It’s organised by the Local Council through a group of residents who love bringing the community together. Now can you think of anything more wholesome than that?
Okay – now for the real juice…
Let’s cut to the chase – who exactly is performing at the Swieqi Festival this year? Their schedule of amazing acts has been put together by the council in conjunction with BIRTH Studios, and it is – literally – music to our ears.
Superstar talents including Kevin Paul Calleja, Maxine Pace, Skarlet, Relikc, Emma Muscat, and – yes – the greatest local diva of them all: Destiny!
The festival will also have special appearances from the Miss Malta team, as well as the very talented students presented by Joshua De Cadenéx with the amazing “Mad About The Voice” vocal school.
And the culminating highlight for this year’s event will be the Fab Beatles UK No1 Tribute band who will close the show on Sunday Evening. There’s virtually zero chance you’re not going to lose your voice singing along to some rocking’ classics.
… And it’s not just all about music
There are loads of activities planned for the weekend. An Art Exhibition by local artists at the Civic Centre Hall, which opens daily.
There is also a 5K Run, 5K Walk and a 1.3K fun run on Friday 8th at 8am, which you can register for here.
They even have kids art and activities – Sunday 10th 5pm onwards at the Civic Centre.
A number of organisation will also have stands you can visit; TDM Malta, Swieqi United FC, Swieqi Phoenix Sports Club, Malta Medical Students Association, Swieqi Girl Guides, Transplant Support Group and Dr. Klown.

Sunday 10th: The FAB Beatles, Skarlet, Destiny, CrossRoads and Out of the Blues, Skarlet & Destiny
With over 40 artists including Mad About The Voice, Gaia, Janice Azzopardi, Aiden and many more performing over the 3 days, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
