COMPETITION: Malta’s Parking Hall Of Shame Is Here To Raise Awareness And Award The Keenest Eyes
Illegally parking in a convenient spot and creating endless hassles to everyone around you is unfortunately very common in Malta. We’ve all seen photos and videos uploaded onto Facebook of various contraventions around the islands, all receiving public criticism and nationwide derision. Now, in an effort to raise awareness on the problematic trend of not giving a fuck on Maltese roads, we’ve teamed up with Malta Public Transport to bring you The Hall of Shame, a collection of some of the worst parking contraventions out there.
We’ll be looking for some priceless public contributions (more on that very soon), but in the meantime, here are 13 honorary mentions to help get you started. We’re focusing on violations on bus routes because those always end up creating an even larger inconvenience to everyone’s day.
1. This van driver who decided a bus stop was actually the best parking spot ever
2. This guy who seems to have accidentally read Car Stop written on the Airport ring-road
3. This entire row of cars that all stopped giving a fuck about buses and yellow boxes
4. This car casually parked in the middle of the road, poetically enough right under a bus stop sign
5. All these people who failed to read a huge sign specifically saying they can’t enter
6. This self-assessed King of the Road
7. This interesting choice for a kiosk extension
8. This pickup on a bus lane
9. When shops become more important than public transport…
10. … and bars trump them too
11. Speaking of bars
12. Some people buy dark grey cars thinking that makes them a ninja
13. But others don’t really care about how obvious their contraventions are
We’re looking for more entries into Malta’s Parking Hall of Shame, and Malta Public Transport have a prize in store for the keenest eye.
To really up the ante and help raise awareness in style, Malta Public Transport are offering a brand new GoPro to the weirdest and worst photos of parking contraventions around the island.
What’s even better is how easy it is to be eligible for this competition.
Step 1: Spot a parking contravention
As you might’ve realised, we’re looking for photos taken in roads which have bus routes passing through them.
There’s a valid reason for this; if you park in front of a garage, you’re being an inconvenience to one person. Park on a bus stop, and you’re suddenly increasing that number to about 50, and that’s without mentioning any potential safety risks, especially to the elderly and those less able or unable to walk.
After all, we’re talking about the Hall of Shame here, so only the most inconvenient will do.
Step 2: Make sure you can safely take a photo
Definitely the most important part of the whole process.
You know what we mean; don’t try to take a photo of a contravention while driving or in the middle of the road. That’s a high level of irony that none of us want or need.
Step 3: Snap the shot and send it to us at [email protected]
And that’s it really. Just like that, you’re on your way to potentially winning a GoPro!
