Article Featured Image

Sure, Malta might get a couple of spells of rain and cold, but we don’t really know what real winter looks and feels like. And as the season of snow rolls in around the world, many of us feel the urge to get on a winter getaway. Thankfully, it’s all gotten way easier to experience winter abroad… and not feel the cold brunt of it all too much.

Just in time for their new winter schedule, the Malta International Airport has opened a new fashion retail store

Located at the Departures lounge, SALTWATER is the airport’s latest fashion store, and it houses nine different brands. From popular brands like Longchamp, Emporio Armani, Diesel and Tommy Hilfiger to more up-and-coming designers like Orlebar Brown, the new Maltese store will definitely help keep you warm ahead of the cold getaway… or prove to be the best place for that last-minute gift. And hey; never underestimate how much one fashionable accessory can really help spoil you before you head off!

Seeing as this store’s arrival perfectly coincides with MIA’s new winter schedule, we thought we’d bring you some outfit ideas for that perfect winter getaway you can now book.

1. A winter getaway in Helsinki with Finnair

The closest thing to a winter wonderland as you can get in Europe.

With temperatures going all the way down to 2°C in October, Finland’s idea of a cold day is when it drops below -15°C.

Your best bet is to go for something that’s going to keep you as warm as it’s going to make sure you’re still fabulous, and SALTWATER obviously have what you’re looking for.

2. A romantic break in Paris with Ryanair and Air Malta

Ah, the city of love. But come February, it might also be the city of snow.

Paris is one of the most visited places in Europe (and the world), and its beautiful buildings are only matched by the beautiful atmosphere of culture and class that can be felt throughout.

Temperatures very regularly drop to way under 10°C in winter, so layers are your best bet. Match a long skirt and fab top with a leather jacket, et voilà!

3. A Moroccan escape with Air Malta

Morocco might not be the first place you think of when someone says winter, but that doesn’t mean the magical city of Casablanca doesn’t make for a perfect winter getaway.

If you’re not a big fan of cold weather, then you might’ve just found your new favourite place to visit. Keep things light and floral to reflect that mild Mediterranean winter and get ready to explore the drop-dead gorgeous North African country.

4. A city break in Berlin with Air Malta

The German capital of techno, punk and the underground is still very much one of the cultural beating hearts of Europe, but only if you add enough leather and black clothing to the mix.

However, that shouldn’t stop you from adding a touch of vibrant colour amidst your comfortable dark clothing. Get ready for a day out in the city… and a long night of music.

5. An Estonian getaway in Tallinn with Ryanair

Nestled just between Scandinavia and Russia, Estonia really is the best of both wintery worlds.

To the north, the capital of Tallinn frequently drops to subzero temperatures, so get your body warmers at the ready for a day out in the northern European city.

6. A French adventure in Bordeaux with Volotea

That French charm extends far beyond Paris.

The southwestern city has cathedrals, palaces, gardens… and a whole lot of wine to enjoy.

It does get quite fresh in winter though, so be sure to warm up ahead of that flushing glass of rouge.

Difficult to miss and impossible to ignore, SALTWATER is set to become a popular outlet with travellers looking for a gift for a special someone back home… and passengers wanting to treat themselves to a little luxury.

Beyond the beloved brands that everyone will instantly recognise, the store has also brought the high-quality brands of Coach and Longchamp to the islands. Designed by an interior design and architecture firm that specialises in high-end retail spaces, restaurants and showrooms, the outlet itself is almost as enticing as the selection of ready-to-wear items, shoes and accessories that grace the shelves.

And when you’ve satisfied your taste for luxury and added that essential wintery item to your outfit, board away and get your winter getaway started!

Oh and by the way, MIA in collaboration SALTWATER are giving away a Long Champ travel bag in order to celebrate the opening of the new outlet and the new brands which have just been introduced in Malta. Check out the Instagram page to get winning!
