7 Things All St Julian’s Residents Need To Know About Spinola Park

There’s a new landmark in Malta’s entertainment capital. It might not be an imposing building, but it’s got all the makings of a city favourite, sleekly combining all the amenities residents crave. If you haven’t heard of it yet, here are seven reasons to discover Spinola Park. And with the St Julian’s festa coming up, there’s never been a better time to do so.

1. It’s the answer to your parking prayers

Parking is a nightmare in St Julian’s, but it’s an absolute pleasure for those who visit Spinola Park. Its underground car park has hundreds of spaces each attached to their own sensors and lighting, to help drivers identify free slots.

The car park is also equipped with easy-to-use lifts that can take visitors wherever they need to go from the top of Lapsi Street to Mikiel Ang Borg Street, and anywhere in between, including the St Julian’s Parish Church, Park Towers Supermarket and the incredible Carob Tree food court.

Eventually housing up to 450 car spaces, the car park will be fully complete in 2019 but it is already open for the public and will be making life easier for festagoers this weekend.

2. There’s an amazing food court to cater to everyone’s taste

Spinola Park is proud to have its own food court, the Carob Tree, which includes 11 amazing kitchens and bars each serving top-notch cuisine. From Asian delicacies to authentic Italian pizza and pasta, fresh fish, Southern Indian, aged meat, incredible salads, craft beer, coffee and ice-cream, there really is something for everyone.

If you want to take the hassle out of group dining, or you just like to have an endless supply of food choices, Carob Tree is your new favourite hangout. You can enjoy your food on the outdoor terrace or escape the sun in the air-conditioned and beautifully-decorated interior, not to mention that they will be starting take-away service from multiple kitchens soon! And if that weren’t enough, your meal at the food court entitles you to free parking! Perfect for a late-night festa snack.

3. And a French bistro that will melt your heart

Everyone knows we’re big fans of Manouche, the eclectic French bakery and bistro serving delicious treats and lunches. Manouche alone is enough to justify a visit to Spinola Park. Everything here is crafted from scratch to perfection, with enough Parisian flair to melt even the most unromantic hearts.

It’s a perfect place for a weekend brunch or afternoon tea. And it’s already a favourite among freelancers who spend the day working on their spacious tables, drinking some of the finest coffee around. You can also take some of the love home, since Manouche offers private catering too.

4. The supermarket is awesome

Spinola Park’s supermarket is designed to make shopping a relaxing experience. The aisles were designed to be wide and comfortable for people to walk through. Apart from all that, Park Towers Supermarket offers a wide range of fresh products made on site like pasta and bread. They even have a very large selection of gluten-free and vegan products also. Yummy.

5. The whole development is actually pretty green

Instead of reducing the number of trees that existed on the site pre-development, Spinola Park actually added more greenery which can already be enjoyed across the building’s terraced facade, and increased even further when the green roof garden is opened. Instead of just decorating the architectural drawings, the greenery around Spinola Park is taken seriously as the project strives to live up to its name.

As a further Ecological benefit, during the excavation process, excavated rock was recycled and instead of being left for waste was used in the making of concrete to build the structure.

What’s even cooler is that every drop of water produced by the air-conditioning units is collected and mixed with rainwater in order to water the lovely plants that grow in the area.

6. It’s been built with St Julian’s residents in mind

Before any designs started, the developers engaged with the community and neighbours to see how the project could benefit the area.

To make life easier for the elderly population living in the village core, public lifts were built to offer shortcuts to the parish church. And to respect the profile of the existing Parish Church, the building was purposely terraced back.

The building was also designed to ensure any fumes generated in the car park are extracted away from residences and onto the main road instead.

7. The design itself is super cool, and that’s definitely a winner

It’s not often that a development works so well with its surroundings. The wide terraces create a seamless transition with the Church parvis and really inspire a community feeling all-round, while adding a much needed touch of green. And the interior is just as beautiful.
