Hands up if you’re heading off on a Christmas getaway this year! Well, if you are you’re in for a treat before you even leave the country. Malta International Airport is going to be very busy this festive season, with loads of exciting things happening all over the airport.
From a letter writing station at Departures, to a toy building workshop at the food court, it’s all happening this Christmas!
The Departures area will be full of activities and surprises for people heading off on a family holiday, or making their way home for the festive season. And for those not travelling this Christmas, Malta International Airport has set up a kids club at its food court that is sure to guarantee all the Christmas cheer necessary!
1. A crafts and letter writing station
Kids will be able to write up their letters to Santa and send them directly to him with the airport’s post box that goes direct to his workshop! They’ll also be able to build their own special toy as they wait for the gate to open.
2. Free Christmas goodies
Tasty Maltese delicacies like mqaret and qagħaq tal-għasel will be distributed to passengers, along with mulled wine for mum and dad.
3. Free gift boxes for your Christmas shopping
Anybody getting some last minute shopping before they hop on the plane will be able to wrap their gifts at the airport, with free gift boxes being distributed at points throughout the day.
4. Friendly elves and Christmas games
Santa’s little helpers will be making their way around to interact with the little ones as they wait for their flight. There will even be Christmas-themed games happening at regular intervals, so keep an eye out!
5. Pop-up champagne bar
This one’s for the more seasoned travellers. The La Valette lounge will be hosting a champagne bar on various days throughout December. A mixologist will be offering guests their favourite bubbly mix to celebrate the festive season in style.
If you’re not already a member, why not treat yourself to a one-off La Valette lounge visit? One-time passes can be bought online at 35eur each, or at the reception desk of the lounge once you’re at the airport.
6. A larger than life puzzle
A massive puzzle will be set up at Departures, and if you manage to beat the record for the fastest time to complete it, you will win shopping vouchers to use at the airport. A great excuse to bag yourself a little gift from you to you.
7. Kids club at the food court
Santa’s factory is setting up at the airport food court between the 21st December and 2nd January. Kids will be able to meet Santa and his elves, join in on some exciting games, and help Santa and the elves finish off some toys before he heads off to deliver them to the rest of the world! But before they make their way to Santa, the kids will have to get through the Christmas Obstacle Course first!
The restaurants at the food court also offer some tasty kids’ menus to keep them fuelled up during all this Christmas excitement. And don’t forget, eating at the airport’s food court entitles you to free parking in the car park!
