Here’s How Malta’s Airport Is Turning Into A Haven For Football Fans This Month
Beyond the excitement of driving to the airport to go abroad, many people love dropping by Luqa to just chill on a Sunday afternoon. With a long list of bars and restaurants both at the airport’s foodcourt and just outside at SkyParks Business Centre, the area has become a favourite of locals beyond the usual Arrivals and Departures hype. And now, the airport is going to be one of the best places to watch the World Cup.
1. World Cup matches will be screened all around the airport campus
The food court (on Level -1) will not only be screening the matches, has been decorated to celebrate the summer football season.
Beyond the food court, however, there will also be screenings of matches at the gates area in Departures (just in case you need to know how your favourite team is doing before you travel), and at SkyParks restaurants, including Vecchia Napoli, Talbot & Bons and Bert’s Kitchen. SkyParks itself will be airing the matches on a big screen, and you get to enjoy the World Cup in complete comfort with indoor air-conditioning, and large shaded areas for outdoor viewing.
So it’s safe to assume there’s going to be enough space for everyone, along with all the food and drink choices your heart could ever desire.
2. Amazing drink offers you can’t beat
As if all the different locations to watch the matches wasn’t enough.
What’s one thing you’re definitely going to need while watching a World Cup fixture? That’s right; beer. So to celebrate this month of international competition, these food outlets are going all out.
Free-flowing beer and bar bites will be available at Bert’s Kitchen at just €15
Yep, you read that right!
Along with that, the iconic Fat Harry’s Pub will have special bucket offers and some very unique giveaways.
3. Parking hassles? What parking hassles…
Of course, this being the airport, ample parking is available. What’s awesome to remember, though, is that convenience is not the only name in the game when it comes to parking at the airport. Most of the food outlets actually also have free parking, including sheltered bays at SkyParks.
So right before the match starts and your blood starts boiling, you’ll at least be sitting down knowing getting here was as chilled as could be.
4. Want to win a trip to the winning country? Yes please!
Yes, believe it or not, there actually is more.
Throughout the first part of the World Cup, a grand competition tied with the international games will be taking place at the airport.
Anyone spending at least €15 at most of the outlets (before security-check) will be automatically eligible for the competition, which can see you winning 2 return flights!
If you guess the winner of this year’s World Cup, you can win return flights to the winning team’s country!
So in other words, all you really need is €15 and a forecasting power that echoes Paul The Octopus.
A long list of outlets will be participating in this competition: Agenda Bookshop (check-in hall), Claire’s, Costa Coffee (check-in hall), Samsonite, Hebe Landside, Vodafone, WHSmith, Dr. Juice, Costa Coffee (arrivals), Burger King, KFC, Sandella’s Flatbread, Fat Harry’s and La Cucina Italiana.
SkyParks will also be participating through Bert’s Kitchen, Headlines, Matrix, Talbot & Bons, Vecchia Napoli and Zen Sushi.
