6 Ways To Win Malta’s War Against Mosquitoes
Every summer, waves of our least favorite insects, mosquitoes, invade our lives. Whether you’re out at the beach, hiking with friends, or just relaxing in bed, that dreaded high pitched whine will have you scrambling for cover. It’s time we rebelled, and took back our favorite season from these tiny invaders.
1. Mosquitoes are basically vampires
Make garlic your new best friend. We didn’t think it was possible for the Maltese to love garlic more than we already do, but turns out the little buggers hate it. Cook with it, eat it, rub it directly on your body. Your significant other might not be impressed with the smell but your skin will thank you.
2. Take up gardening
Gardening is a relaxing, fun and rewarding hobby, but most importantly It can be used against mosquitoes. Mint, lavender, holy basil, & rosemary can all be grown and burned as natural repellents to smoke out the little buggers. Your house will also smell amazing. Alternatively, Raid Spiral is another great way of getting rid of mosquitoes.
3. Install wall burners for your bedroom
Mosquitoes can sense when you’re at your most vulnerable. They’ll always wait until you’re just about to fall asleep before dive-bombing your ears like the worlds most irritating kamikaze fighter. Keep your room, and your sanity, safe with a plug-in wall burner from Raid.
4. Salt the earth
Well not literally, but you can cut off their food supply. If you’re leaving the safety of your house, make sure you rub on some Insect repellent (such as Autan’s) on your skin, to rob them of their dinner.
5. Drain the swamp
You don’t want to give them anywhere to thrive, and stagnant pools of water can quickly becoming breeding grounds for mosquito eggs and larva. Make sure your sinks are empty, dog bowls are clean, and that you don’t have any pools of collected water in your yards.
6. Good ol’ fashioned bug spray
When all else fails, you can’t go wrong with classic bug spray.
Bonus: When one finally breaches your defences
Let’s face it, there’s always one which makes it through unnoticed. In this scenario it’s probably best to treat the bite with Autan’s After Bite Spray. Your recovery will be as smooth as ever.
