WATCH: Is This The Craziest Car Stunt Malta Has Ever Seen?
It plays out like something straight out of Top Gear, but this crazy stunt wasn’t intended to show off a car. It was designed to put Vodafone’s new 4G+ network to the ultimate test.
Instead of the usual stunt, like downloading an entire season of Game of Thrones in record time, Vodafone Malta’s CEO Amanda Nelson decided to put her own life on the line.
She got into a car with one of Malta’s fastest drivers. The twist? The car’s windscreen and windows were completely blacked out. And the only way the driver could know what’s in front of him was through a Vodafone network live stream transmitted to four tablets mounted to the inside of the car.
That’s the blacked-out cockpit, tablets only
And those are the live-streaming phones
Any delay could have been deadly…
Hence the face!
Vodafone roped in experienced driver George Muscat, president of the Malta Drifting Association, together with his team and his Nissan 350Z.
“I had to trust the network blindly. When you’re navigating around chicanes and hairpin bends at fast speeds, lack of delay is everything. And the delay was zero to none,” Muscat said.
Luckily, his passenger was ready for the challenge.
“I trust our network completely and the driver is fantastic so I knew I had nothing to fear,” she said.
“Obviously when the car goes really fast and you hear the screeching of the tyres and you know you’re going to be in it in a minute with blacked out windows, you do get a sense of nervous anticipation.
“But it’s a once in a lifetime experience for me and I’m very privileged to be the one getting into the car.”
