APS Teatru Unplugged Is Back: Here's What You Need To Know About This Year's Line-Up
Book your tickets today
Teatru Unplugged is an institution. It's been held annually since 1998 when it was founded by Jonathan Shaw and Nirvana Azzopardi. It's now in its 19th edition, meaning it's Malta's longest-standing yearly event. This year's show will be compered by Jo Caruana and the artistic director is Renzo Spiteri.
But all in all the nationally-loved format has remained the same: a stripped-back version of Malta's best musicians. Just talent and an auditorium, and it always takes our breath away.
As you gear up for this year's edition (taking place on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th December at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta), here's a selection of highlights from this year's APS Teatru Unplugged 19 lineup:
Get your Swing on
The fun-loving gypsy swing outfit Swing Nuages will be bringing their vibrant swing sound to the stage. Expect uptempo and retro music in the style of the 1930s.
A bit of soul...
The prolific and supremely talented singer Nadine Axisa will be accompanied by pianist Christian Borg in a set which takes inspiration from latin, swing and soul music. The classically trained voice of this Maltese rose will have you swaying your head, eyes shut, without shame.
The genius cover band
Beloved six-piece banda-cover geniuses KażinSka are a group young musicians and friends that together give their own interpretation of traditional marches’ melodies. These interpretations are dressed into ska, reggae, samba, jazz, R&B, electronic music etc. Expect: joyous atmosphere, fun factor 100.
Rock 'n' roll vibes
Based on our picturesque sister-island, Roundhouse Kicks have been around for seven years and counting. These seasoned musicians specialise in 70’s classic rock covers such as songs from Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Cream, ZZ Top, David Bowie, Free, Bad Company and so on. Basically anything that's badass.
Red Electrick – acoustic version
A band that definitely does not need any introductions by now. Teatru Unplugged is a opportunity to see this award-winning band in it's most pared-back format. As an added bonus, their five-man set up is increasing to seven exclusively for this show.
Tickets are selling for €10, €18 and €25 from the Manoel Theatre Booking Office, or over the phone on 21246389 or online. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org for more booking info. We recommend early booking to avoid disappointment - these shows are always ones not to miss!
Just in case an awesome night of music is not enough, you can also tick off your charitable donations box while you're at the event. Teatru Unplugged umbrellas will be sold as part of a local project that's raising funds for cancer awareness and research. They will also be available from Manoel Theatre booking office at €12 euro discounted to €10 if purchased with a ticket.
APS Teatru Unplugged is also being supported by: Blumerang, Baileys, The Pulled Meat company, Camilleri paris mode and Yamaha.
