This Weekend’s Colourful Spring Festival In Valletta Is The Ultimate Family Fun Experience
In between many people’s constant attempt to have the most beautiful Instagram feed around and our inherent desire to instil some youthfulness into our weekends, many Maltese people are simply obsessed with colours. And now that spring is finally here, the islands have just been given a vibrant dose of greens, reds and yellows. Adding to all that colour is the annual Colour Fest that’s set to take over the Valletta Waterfront this weekend.
The annual spring festival is actually the fourth consecutive one of its kind, and with the great deal of positive feedback and attendance previous editions have been getting, it’s easy to see why so many people are excited for this year’s iteration.
The venue itself lends to the event’s colourful nature, with Valletta Waterfront’s iconic coloured doors serving as the perfect multi-coloured backdrop for a festival like this.
It’s all going down this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and when we say all, we really do mean it! It’s another year of fun for the whole family, and here are some of the things going down during this year’s edition of the Colour Fest.
1. Children’s art competition is back with a bang
An educational children’s art competition open to all public, private and church schools, from Kindergarten to Form 5, was held in February and March going by the theme The Colourful Aspects of Maltese Culture and Traditions. The submitted artworks – all 300+ of them – will be exhibited for public viewing for the duration of the festival.
2. The festival’s little guests will have way more than competitions to get immersed in
Balloon modelling, face painting, crafts, games, colouring-ins, meet and greets with all-time favourite characters, puppet shows, bouncy castles… Colour Fest has it all!
Friday and Saturday evening (18:30 onwards) and Sunday afternoon (12:30 onwards) will see an endless list of activities that will have you wishing you were a child all over again.
3. Parents, this is your weekend too
Those beautiful historical stores originally constructed by Grandmaster Pinto in 1752 aren’t just there for that perfect Instagram shot. Waiting inside is a group of eateries perfect for the late afternoon bite.
The Valletta Waterfront’s many restaurants and bars will all be presenting a variety of foods and drinks catering to different tastes over the weekend. Whether it’s in the beautiful 18th century indoors or just at the water’s edge, this is the perfect opportunity to grab a bite to eat… and a cocktail or two.
4. Live music as colourful as the festival itself
Every day will close off with a Maltese band that will help add the soundtrack to your weekend at Valletta Waterfront.
SterjoTipi, Crosswalk, and Novel will help add colour to an already very colourful weekend.
5. Experience art and craft
You’ll be able to indulge in some creative shopping from a variety of artisan stalls offering handcrafted gifts, accessories, decor, and something to satisfy your sweet tooth as well. You can also discuss art with artists exhibiting their works at the festival! #artsy
