WATCH: One Of The World’s Most Popular Musicals Is Coming To Malta… And A West End Leading Lady Is Joining

If you’re a fan of musicals, then FM Theatre Productions is definitely a theatrical company to watch. A few weeks ago, the company brought My Fair Lady to the island, but now, they’re going even bigger for their next performance.

Mamma Mia is coming to Malta!

A Mediterranean wedding, a spirited bride, a love for family, and a sun-kissed compilation of Abba songs. This musical was just waiting for a Maltese arrival, and we finally have it. The eighth longest-running musical in West End history, Mamma Mia is chock-full of hits that all types of Abba fans will instantly recognise.

What’s more, West End leading lady Charlotte Gorton will be starring in the production!

The grand weekend is part of FM Theatre’s 20th anniversary theatrical season, and the local production house is not pulling any stops, going so far as to even add extra show on the 14th of April due to popular demand!

Charlotte Gorton has starred in an endless list of UK and international productions for the last two decades. She’s won multiple awards over the years, taking part in everything from Grease to Guys and Dolls. For this particular production, she’ll yet again be taking on the iconic role of Donna Sheridan, the mother of the bride Sophie (played by Meryl Streep in the popular Hollywood adaption).

“I am thrilled to be travelling to Malta to take on Mamma Mia once again, as it’s a musical I absolutely love and one of my all-time favourites,” Charlotte said. “It’s always fun to return to a show and to have another go! I am a lot older now, so I know I will bring a different feel to it this time round.”

Playing the legendary role one more time wasn’t the only thing on Charlotte’s mind, though. “I have actually always wanted to visit Malta as I love places with history and the architecture looks wonderful,” she said. “I am looking forward to really getting to know it during my stay.”

Seeing as FM Theatre have just put up My Fair Lady, it’s amazing how they managed to already have another grand production in the works. “Our 20th anniversary will only come around once and it’s a huge milestone for us, so we’re proud to be going all out,” producer Edward Mercieca explained. “Two musicals (and a panto) in one year is no mean feat, but the team is working brilliantly. I have no doubt audiences will enjoy this show just as much as they did with our last one.”

While Charlotte Gorton brings with her the best of West End, the rest of the cast is some of Malta’s best offerings.

Mamma Mia will feature an all-star local cast including Izzy Warrington, Pia Zammit, Antony Edridge, Ray Calleja, Edward Mercieca, Maxine Aquilina, Thomas Camilleri, Francesco Nicodeme, Jeremy Grech, Nicole Cassar and Tezara Eve Camilleri.

It will be directed by Chris Gatt, with Kris Spiteri as musical director, Cathy Lawlor as vocal coach and Francesco Nicodeme as choreographer.

Mamma Mia will be staged at the Mediterranean Conference Centre for four different performances:

Friday 13th April at 8pm, Saturday 14th April at 8pm, and Sunday 15th April at 3pm and 7:30pm.

Tickets are available online now, or you can always call the ticket hotline 79445030. We wouldn’t recommend sitting on them much longer though; they’re already selling out fast. Tickets have been selling very fast, and there’s very few left.

Don’t forget to check out the extra show on Saturday 14th April at 3pm if you haven’t secured your tickets yet!

In case you wanted more information though, you can check out the official Facebook event page right here.
