Name a more iconic sister-duo than Philippa and Bettina Cassar from The New Victorians – we’ll wait. The singing, music-writing, theatre-making powerhouses have certainly made a name for themselves in the local arts scene, as well as making waves on our local radio stations.
We managed to grab Phil and Bett for a quick break from their super busy schedule to go for a quick 21-question-ride with Chucky in the super sleek Mazda 3.
Having these three in one car was definitely no quiet ride
From the loud laughs to the sisterly quarrels, we got to know a lot about the Cassar siblings and also got an insight into their careers. Snuggled safely away from the heat inside the climate controlled Mazda 3, and rocking their classic Carla Grima get-ups, we got to know a bit more about these legendary sisters and life as The New Victorians.
And some erm, interesting, hidden talents from Philippa’s end.
So, what exactly did we learn about The New Victorians?

-They’re both painfully energetic morning people
-Just like Alan Montanaro, their dream dinner guest would be Jesus
-Philippa is heavily inspired by musical theatre legend Lin Manuel Miranda
-Their instruments are their most prized possessions
-Bettina only just watched the Harry Potter films, and because her husband made her
-Philippa’s favourite city is Glasgow because she lived there for a year
-Working with your sister means you can have no filter, but that’s not always a good thing
And they gave out some pretty great life advice: don’t wait for something to happen- if you want to do something, go out and do it without fear of failure.
If you don’t know who The New Victorians are, definitely treat your ears to some of their music
Their debut album Seeker Seeker launched back in 2016, and since then they’ve been super busy since then. From writing new music, filming a trilogy of music videos, devising a variety of original performances, and winning Artist of the Year at the Premju għall-Arti, it’s been quite a ride.
And now they’re gearing up to take their original performances MARA and Rave & Behave to Scotland to be performed at the Edinburgh Fringe this August!
Despite the crazy heat outside, Chucky and The New Victorians seemed pretty chill inside the Mazda 3
The car’s got climate control, so you can adjust to make sure you’re never too hot or too cold. It’s also got super easy controls inside to manage sound, music, navigation, mirrors and windows. It’s even got keyless entry to make getting in and out of your car super easy.
It’s a great car for listening to music in and hosting your own carpool karaoke sessions, because its got eight (yes, eight) speakers inside the car, plays CD’s, MP3 and connects to bluetooth, and it’s got an 8.8 inch screen at the front of the car.
There are cup holders at the front and back of the car to help you keep comfortable and hydrated during your ride. There’s also auto-dimming windows and mirrors, and interior lighting to help you (and the car) adapt to how sunny or shiny the day is.
So basically the Mazda 3 is the perfect car to keep you comfortable during your ride, no matter how long it is.
