Watch: You Can Never Be Too Young To Make A Change
Maltese students Lea Giglio and Angelique Tabone were crowned the winners of the first-ever Idea Explosion student challenge organized by one of Malta’s leading strategy and consulting firms, EY.
The competition urged youngsters to come up with ambitious projects for a better working Malta. The winning project titled ‘Saveagri’ strives to provide locals with a space to better understand agriculture and farming through a hands-on experience.
Based on its mission to provide young people the platform to showcase their ideas for a better future, EY’s competition called for ideas based on two categories; Economy and Business, and Technology and Innovation. Cristina Grech was named the winner of the Technology and Innovation category for her project called ‘Purity’, a sensor that collects data on air quality in Malta.
12 finalists were shortlisted for the competition following a nationwide call, and a panel of judges decided which projects were most impactful.
The winners from St. Monica School and the runner up from St. Dorothy’s both won a €3,000 cash prize for their school. The winners were also taken to EY Wavespace Rome as part of their prize.
Ronald Attard, Country Managing Partner at EY Malta, explained that the competition is important as it gives Malta’s student body the platform to create a better working Malta.
The spirit of the competition was ultimately perfectly explained by Cristina Grech, who proudly advised fellow youngsters that they ‘can never be too young to make a change.’
JAYE Malta CEO Matthew Caruana, Bajada Investments Chairman Mark Bajada, and Joyce Grech, Head of Commercial Banking for HSBC formed the competition’s judging panel.
