It’s no secret that a fresh, hot loaf of bread is a staple on any Maltese dinner table (and arguably one of the best parts of any good meal). The global hype for sourdough bread in particular is still going strong, and the Maltese have been no exception.

Sourdough owes its rise in popularity and demand not only to its exceptional taste but also to its health benefits and the fact that it is easy to digest, so you can enjoy the taste without feeling too full once you’ve finished.

Maypole bakery has just launched a new range of sourdough bread which Lovin Malta’s Jonathan Cilia was lucky enough to taste when he met with Head Baker Etienne.

You can now order your loaves online until midnight every Thursday.

There are six mouth-watering flavours ready for you to try! Learn more in the video below:

Hazelnut and walnut sourdough loaf
This is a first-timer for Malta, and you can pair it with a drizzle of honey for a sweet snack on the go.

Black olive sourdough loaf
A classic, perfect for platters or a quick sandwich. Pair it with some good-old fresh ġbejniet for that Maltese touch.

Grano D’uro sourdough loaf
The plain loaf, made with grano duro flour gives you all the liberty you need to add whatever sweet and savoury toppings you are craving at the moment.

Turmeric and seeds sourdough loaf
Another inherently sweet bread. We recommend some fresh dates, figs or fruit with this one. You’re welcome!

Sundried tomato sourdough loaf
A Maltese favourite that screams island vibes. A generous dollop of bigilla will go down nicely with this one.

Chorizo sourdough loaf with chilli flakes (and red wine)

Need we say more? Get those cheese boards (and some olive oil) out right now! In 2023, Maypole will also introduce its sourdough pizza bases.

Willing to write about absolutely anything, Kelly’s love for storytelling started in childhood as she hoarded books, films and collections of short stories that all became an escape from the ordinary. She has now (finally) decided to put what she learned to good use and keeps herself busy by using her words and her voice to help tell other people’s stories, to inspire, uplift and connect with others. While writing is certainly a passion of hers, theatre is Kelly’s first love, and she has been acting professionally for over ten years.
