WIN: From Bestselling Novel To Contemporary Dance Performance – Perfume Is Coming To Malta’s National Theatre
If you’re a fan of contemporary dance, classic literature, creepy movies, or all of the above, you’re in for a treat this May.
Moveo Dance Company, one of Malta’s leading dance companies, is turning 10 this year. And to celebrate, they’re collaborating with Teatru Manoel to grace the stage of our national theatre with an original performance inspired by bestselling novel ‘Perfume’ by Patrick Suskind.
The novel has been a source of inspiration for many artists and creatives over the years. Legendary bands like Nirvana and Panic! At The Disco both have songs inspired by the story, there was an episode of hit TV show Criminal Minds that bears strong similarities, and the novel was even turned into a feature-length film in 2006.
A bit of a creepy murder film, but what do you expect when you think about the novel’s plot?
Moveo’s PERFUME will look at and adapt the central theme of ‘murder’ from the well known novel
Set in a world that explores the emotional connection between different smells and the emotions they bring, PERFUME enchants with irresistible seduction and compelling movement.
The show was previewed during December’s Dance Showcase at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, with the Philharmonic Orchestra playing live music to accompany the dancers. If you want a sneak peek at what to expect from the show, check it out below!
The music and movement definitely feature a lot of the tense and macabre elements that make up the story of Perfume, as well as a hint of sexual attraction that drives the protagonist.
The show is being choreographed by Moveo’s artistic director Dorian Mallia
Who has impressed audiences all over Malta and Gozo (and internationally) with his innovative vision, and PERFUME will be no different.
The choreography will be set against an original composition by Albert Garcia, and dancers will be working some amazing costumes by Ritienne Zammit. Talk about a powerful creative team.
