American Food Franchises That Absolutely Need To Come To Malta

Article Featured Image

It’s no secret that we Maltese people have a love for the unhealthiest of food. Our diet might not be the best around, and it will probably shave a couple of years off our lifespan, but a life without ice-cream, doughnuts, fast-food, and coffee is hardly one worth living. We all deserve to eat something that makes us feel guilty but tastes like heaven every once in a while.

This is our list of seven fast food and coffee franchises that will have us staring in the mirror judging ourselves, and putting on our running shoes.

1. Starbucks

The daddy of fast coffee outlets. With seemingly millions of their outlets placed everywhere in every country, except Malta. It is never surprising to see a cheeky Instagram story of your friends frappuccino the moment they leave the island. Starbucks coffee in Malta would surely attract us locals and foreigners to the outlets, grinning our time away, as they misspell and mispronounce our names on the cups.

2. Dairy Queen

For those that don’t know about Dairy Queen, all you need to know is that you need this in your life. This primarily US franchise recently made its presence in Europe (Poland), we pray this heads straight south to our Island. Its Ice-cream and fat food will have us sweating at the gym. But believe us, it’s worth it.

3. Taco-Bell

We obviously need a fast-food franchise that specialises in tacos, quesadillas, and nachos. With many Americans claiming this is food sent down from the heavens, we’ll definitely be hammering down the doors to get a bite of those sweet sweet burritos.

4. Dunkin’ Donuts

America runs on Dunkin’ and so could Malta. We’ve got some great donut places around the island, but should this beast pay us a visit, we’d all quickly convert over….Just kidding (not really).

Offering an amazing selection of baked goods, bagels, and hot and cold beverages, Dunkin’ Donuts is the place you’d gladly enjoy feeling guilty at.

5. Baskin Fobins

Probably the largest chain of Ice-cream in the world, definitely in the U.S. This chain belongs in Malta, complementing both our hot summers, and ice cream loving mentality. With cakes, desserts, shakes, drinks and everything else that is terribly unhealthy for us, maybe it’s a blessing that Baskin Robins hasn’t invaded just yet.

6. Wendy’s

Think of this like a mix between McDonalds and Burger-King. Being literally everywhere except Europe, we need to travel quite far for Wendy’s delicious burgers, and greasy fries.

We’re not crying out for this franchise to come visit but if Wendy’s had to come, we’d be queuing up, and shoving those burgers down our stomachs like the weaklings we are.

7. Tim Hortons

This Canadian multi-national fast food restaurant is globally renowned for its coffee and donuts. The things we clearly need more of on our island.

Great food, beer, fries, wings and breasts….Chicken breasts.

Who doesn’t like those things? We’re sure the food’s decent, but that wont be the reason that half the country’s population would be visiting this place.

It’s definitely for the best that we don’t have an outlet yet in Malta, because we’d probably be caught in a weeks-long national debate.
