A gunshot rang through the streets of Isla last night, leading police to search for and eventually arrest a 29-year-old man.

The incident happened at about 10pm, when the police was alerted of a shot that was heard being fired in Triq Iż-Żewġ Mini. District Police and Rapid Intervention Units immediately went on the scene, where a search for the perpetrator was launched.

The man was soon found and arrested.

Preliminary investigations found that the shot was the result of an argument between the man and a 23-year-old woman, who luckily managed to escape unharmed.

A Mercedes being used by the man was found in the same road, with the weapon used in the shooting discovered inside. A metal bat and a substantial amount of cash were also found in the car, with the bullet eventually also being discovered in the street.

Magistrate Dr Ian Farrugia LL.D has been informed of the case and has ordered an investigation into the matter. A police investigation is still underway.
