Super-fast Maltese boat ARTIE III is officially the first competitor flying the white and red to cross the line at this year’s Rolex Middle Sea Race.

One of the fastest Maltese boats ever to take part in the race, the carbon-fibre flyer racer was a whole 40 miles ahead of the nearest Maltese competitor up to yesterday.

Today, Lee Satariano and his crew crossed the finish line at the entrance of Marsamxett Harbour at 2pm.

Having won the race in 2011 and 2014, the team had set high expectations for themselves ahead of this year’s edition of the prestigious race.

Customising an already-decorated boat and entering the competition with a much more demanding vessel, Lee Satariano and victorious co-skipper Christian Ripard (who has been participating for the last 41 years ever since he was only 17 years old) had high hopes and even higher expectations for HH42 Artie III this year, aiming to place in a top position in their Class.

And as George David’s American Maxi Rambler became the first boat to finish the race for the fifth consecutive time yesterday, Artie III had all but secured its victory, leading the Maltese pack by dozens of miles.

Congratulations to the whole crew of ARTIE III, and good luck to the rest of the Maltese boats out there on the final stretch!
