During last week’s Popolin on TVM, Domestic Violence Commissioner Samantha Pace Gasan, shared that she is a survivor of gender-based domestic violence.

Following a featured clip of local entrepreneur Francesca Gauci, where she shared her experience as a former victim of domestic violence, the teary-eyed Commissioner revealed that “she can relate” to Francesca’s experience.

Admitting that she feels emotional when she speaks about the matter, Pace Gasan stated “I too am survivor of gender-based violence”.

She explained how difficult it is for the victim to get out of such an abusive situation, especially when other factors come into play, such as when the person is financially dependant on the abuser, or when there are children in the equation.

She stressed that these scenarios are riddled with “manipulation” from the aggressor’s part who toys with the victim’s emotions, making it even harder for them to cut ties with their aggressor.

We commend Samantha’s bravery for speaking about her difficult experience. What do you make of this?
