Gourmet Meso-South American Inspired Dining Is Coming To St Julian’s
A new restaurant focused on the sharing culture of vibrant Meso-South America inspired fusion is coming to St Julian’s on 1st October.
Hammett’s Mestizo is the latest culinary vision to come from the mind of chef Chris Hammett, who wanted to create a space to celebrate the incredible approach to food found in Central and South America.
“Hammett’s Mestizo is a vibrant Meso-South American inspired fusion social dining and drinking experience, with culinary influences expanding from Central America to the Caribbean and from the Andes to the Amazon and Patagonia,” chef Hammett told Lovin Malta.
Venezuelan head chef Jorge Lugo Urbani will be in charge of the cooking, using his roots to give the food that authentic touch and his experience working at Hammett’s other restaurants to refine it.

The food menu offers a plates-to-share concept that aims to explore the authentic flavours of Hispanic American cuisine and re-introduce them as a refined casual dining experience.
But it’s much more than just incredible food.
A South American wine list carefully curated by head sommelier and manager Petros Skarmoutsos features some of the best examples of the continent’s winemaking, while the bar is showcasing a unique selection of premium Latin American spirits and inspired cocktails.
“The capper to the concept is the sourcing of single-origin, speciality coffees and chocolates from small farms, along with an exquisite cigar selection, available for the true connoisseurs and the adventurous to savour,” the Mestizo team said.
Mestizo, which will be part of the Number 11 Urban Hotel, wants people to lend themselves to the closeness and camaraderie found in sharing an incredible meal with friends: “The idea is that one doesn’t just eat for sustenance but also to grow, as an experience, to celebrate and to reconnect with family and friends.”
The Hammetts team have previously wowed Maltese diners with their creations in Hammett‘s Gastro Bar in Sliema and Hammett‘s Macina Restaurant in Senglea – so we cannot wait to see what Mestizo is offering next.
