Heatwave Alert! Malta’s First Day Of Summer Is Bringing Even Hotter Weather With It… And 40s Are Just Round The Corner

Have you been finding yourself sweating profusely and thinking Malta can’t possibly get any hotter? Well, we’ve got some pretty bad news for you, and it’s all coming on exactly the first day of summer.

The weather for June so far has already been very hot, with averages of 32°C and 33°C seeing us through the last week. But just as summer officially starts tomorrow, things are set to get even hotter.

Starting from Friday 21st June, the temperature will slowly start rising, from 33°C that feels more like 36°C… to an apparent temperature of 39°C by Monday.

Yes. We’re very sorry, but that wasn’t a misprint.

Last year, the first day of summer brought with it unusually cool weather and actual flooding as a result of a freak storm, but the weather forecast for summer 2019 is showing sunny days of powerful UV 10 across the board… not to mention the hottest days of the year so far.

Between today and Monday, every single day will see a rise of 1°C in both highs and lows (which could peak at temperatures as high as 25°C at night), eventually landing just one degree away from the dreaded 40s during the first day of next week. The barely negligble winds of Force 2 and 3 (mostly from a southerly direction, to make matters even worse) will also not do much in the ways of providing a cool breeze.

In other words, keep away from open spaces in peak times (mostly 11am – 3pm), carry an extra bottle of sunscreen with you, and don’t forget to hydrate yourselves. Summer truly begins on the 21st this year!

tl;dr version: Wake me up when September ends.
