Hilton International has confirmed it is aware of the situation regarding Yorgen Fenech, the ex-franchise owner of Hilton Malta who has been arrested as a main suspect in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Lovin Malta reached out to Hilton International last week to get a statement following the arrest of Fenech, who was CEO of the Tumas Group, which owns Hilton Malta, up until his resignation shortly before his arrest.

On 22nd November, a representative of Hilton’s PR team confirmed that it was aware of the situation and promised to get back. However, despite multiple attempts to reach out to Hilton, the hospitality company has yet to provide a statement as of the time of writing.

Hilton Malta was opened in 2000 by Yorgen Fenech’s late father George Fenech, former proprietor of the Tumas Group, and is renowned as one of Malta’s most luxurious hotels.

Following Fenech’s arrest, blogger-journalist Manuel Delia wrote that Tumas Group was recently visited by Hilton International Group ‘to discuss concerns over the reputational harm this case can have on the Hilton brand.’

Delia also put forward questions to the Hilton Group, which also remain unanswered.

What action should Hilton International take?
