Hunting Lobby Reveals Malta’s ‘Friendliest’ MEP Candidates… But Hunters Warn They Won’t Vote

With a few weeks to go ahead of the European Parliament election, the national hunting lobby (FKNK) has published a list of ‘hunter-friendly’ candidates as a guide to its members.

The list indicates which candidates have so far replied to a FKNK questionnaire, which candidates have signed their hunting manifesto and how many meetings they had with an FKNK delegation at the candidate’s own request.

PL candidate Cyrus Engerer tops the list, having met the FKNK council three times during the campaign, followed by PL candidate Joe Sammut, who has met up with them twice.

While nine PL candidates have met up with the FKNK, only one PN candidate, Peter Agius, has done likewise.

And only three candidates have signed the FKNK’s manifesto, PL candidates Alex Agius Saliba and Felix Saliba, as well as Norman Lowell from the anti-immigration Imperum Europa.

“By the end of the current month, the FKNK will publish further and final details in this regard,” the hunting lobby said.

However, several hunters warned under the FKNK’s Facebook post that they will abstain from the election, angry as they are at the moratorium that has been imposed on the hunting of turtle dove in spring.

“I don’t know why you keep promoting these people,” one commented. “The EU never gave us anything but rather took everything away from us.”

“All these derogations and farces and MEPs who promise to stand up for us, and yet they keep taking something away from us every hunting season,” another one said. “This season, the two hunting lobbies [FKNK and KSU] couldn’t even agree on whether to lift the moratorium or not. MEP candidates expect us to vote for them and for Europe when none of them ever stand up for us. Are they living on a different planet?”
