The annual BOV Volleyball Marathon came to a triumphant close at midnight on Sunday, having raised an impressive sum of €366,817 in aid of Dar tal-Providenza.

The event, which spanned an intense fifty-three hours of non-stop volleyball, captivated the hearts and minds of participants and spectators alike.

The marathon officially commenced at 6pm on Friday with a ceremonial whistle blown by Voluntary Organisations Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli.

The overwhelming success of the Volleyball Marathon would not have been possible without the unwavering support and generosity of the people of Malta and Gozo.

Once again, they demonstrated their commitment to charitable causes by wholeheartedly responding to the call for fundraising for Id-Dar tal-Providenza.

Father Martin, the director of the home, expressed his deep gratitude to the community for their tremendous contributions. Their collective efforts will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of those who benefit from the services provided by the Home.

In addition to the generous donors, Father Martin extended his heartfelt appreciation to the players, volunteers, and members of the organising committee who dedicated their time and energy to making the marathon a resounding success. Their commitment and passion for the cause were instrumental in creating an engaging and memorable event for all involved.

The marathon also provided an opportunity to promote inclusivity and the belief that sports are truly for everyone, regardless of their abilities. As part of the event, a group of Slovenian athletes, some of whom have disabilities, took part in a game of sitting volleyball.

This marked the first time this activity was organized at the Siġġiewi Home. The collaboration between ParaVolleyMalta and the Birkirkara Volley Club made this inspiring event possible. By showcasing the inclusiveness of sports, it is hoped that such activities will encourage people to embrace the fact that sports can be enjoyed by individuals of all abilities.

The Volleyball Marathon brought together not only athletes but also approximately two hundred dedicated volunteers who played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of the event.

Beyond the volleyball matches, there was a range of entertainment provided on the main stage every evening, as well as an array of food and drink options and engaging children’s games. The live broadcast of the marathon on major local TV stations further amplified the reach and impact of the event, allowing people to follow the action from the comfort of their homes.

The BOV Volleyball Marathon not only raised an impressive sum for Dar tal-Providenza but also highlighted the importance of inclusivity in sports.

The dedication of the players, volunteers, organisers, sponsors, and various stakeholders ensured the success of the marathon. The impact of this remarkable event will undoubtedly be felt for years to come, providing crucial support to those in need and fostering a more inclusive society.

If you missed the BOV Volleyball Marathon contribute directly to Dar tal-Providenza to help the disadvantaged lead an easier, more dignified life.
