Insane 50 Metre Tower Shows Up In Mqabba Ahead Of This Year’s Festa

Mqabba is going all out this year with its fireworks display for Santa Marija. Well, even more all out than they normally do. The small Maltese town in the south-west is known for its impressive pyrotechnic displays and it’s looking to make this year its most spectacular one yet with a huge, 50-metre tower.

The metal tower is the centrepiece of the show, and will be a launching platform which can create letters, shapes and symbols from the explosions. The best part? It’s called the Tower Of Light, which is the most metal name possible for this beast.

MALTA’S VERY OWN EYE OF SAURON, READY FOR THIS YEAR’S CELEBRATION

Fireworks Spectacular (the name of the show), is a massive hour-and-a-half long marathon of light and colour. This year’s show will include over 10,000 non-stop shots synchronised to music, ranging from orchestral, to your favourite movie soundtracks.

The display is being organised by St. Mary Fireworks of Mqabba, winners of the 2007 International World fireworks competition.

All of this comes at the climax of a week-long celebration in classic festi style; street vendors, band club marches, and lot of fun, music and drinking. If it’s your first time in Malta and want to see a real Maltese tradition come to life, there is no better place to start.
