‘Lies And More Lies’: Johanna Boni’s Mother Slams Court Verdict Clearing Truck Driver Of Motorcyclist’s Death

The family of a 27-year-old motorcyclist who lost her life in an accident in Naxxar in 2016 has slammed a court verdict placing the blame on the motorcyclist, and not the driver of the truck involved in the death.

The Boni family has now pledged to appeal the case.

Johanna Boni’s mother Josephine reacted to the court decision which cleared 60-year-old Carmel Cauchi of criminal negligence when he caused the death of Boni as she tried to overtake his cement-loaded, left-hand drive truck on the morning of 5th January 2016 at around 8am.

“Once again, Johanna was killed. Lies, lies and lies. Anyone knows that in that road it’s impossible to overtake on the left… so was Johanna suicidal?” asked Johanna’s mother Josephine.

She called out the court’s verdict in light of the experts and in particular the witnesses called in to testify.

“This is a sentence given on lies. This is an insult to common sense.”

Witnesses recounted how the motorcycle had appeared “out of nowhere”, saying they didn’t think the truck driver even realised he had run over a bike.

The incident occurred  afterthe bike became stuck under the truck’s front left wheel as it was overtaking it.

Though the driver Cauchi was cleared on criminal charges, it was found that he had failed to keep a proper lookout through his mirrors. He only realised what happened when people began honking their horns at him.

After the accident, he was taken to hospital for shock.

However, with her daughter dead, and a court system placing the blame on her, Josephine was left wondering if justice will ever be served.

“We must all give an account to God one day – I can’t wait, honestly!”
