‘Living In The Dark Ages’: Energy Minister Miriam Dalli Slammed By Maltese People Over Unprecedented Blackouts

Energy Minister Miriam Dalli took to social media today after a near-week of suffering for the Maltese people in the face of unprecedented, days-long power cuts.

With countless people left powerless – literally and metaphorically – with nothing but the sweat on their brows to help them pass them the time and not lose their mind, Dalli shared some updates from Enemalta’s technical team, once again blaming the heat for the fact that the Abela administration is unable to provide a tiny island nation with consistent electricity.

But people just didn’t care anymore, pushed way beyond their breaking points.

“Thank you for taking yet more money out of peoples pockets and homes, money that is hard enough to come by,” one person said, sharing photos of their food thrown away in the rubbish bin.

“Garbage bags full of good food thrown away and having to live in the dark ages again. Lack of planning and on your end minister a huge failure to stick to your word. I have your replies saying that this will be sorted last year. Shame on you.”

“You think I’m going to buy that the cables are overheating?” said another commenter, before breaking down how deep the cables are laid and how they are built specifically for this kind of pressure.

“I would have expected you, as the concerned minister, to hold a press conference on the national station addressing the people,” said a third. “Never in the history of Malta have the people spent so long without electricity.”

Others called for resignations in the face of continued blackouts and seemingly no clear solution in sight.

For her part, Dalli thanked workers who were working hard to restore electricity to the nation, noting that yesterday Malta saw a record demand in power of 624W.
