Mqabba Apartment’s Electrical Service Panels Melt After Water Fault Triggers Sparks And Smoke

Article Featured Image

An Imqabba apartment block’s electrical service panels completely melted after a water fault triggered sparks and smoke in the residence.

The incident occurred at around 12.30pm in an apartment block situated along Triq il-Friefet, Mqabba.

The electrical service panels started sparking due to the heat, triggering the water main to start dripping over the service panels, worsening the situation.

The Civil Protection Department (CPD) were called on site, as well as technicians from Enemalta, to control the smoke and limit a fire from breaking out. The residents were also evacuated as a precaution.

The water main was closed by members from the CPD, until Enemalta came on site and disconnected the mains.

The electrical service panels and water mains were still heavily damaged, with photos obtained by Lovin Malta showing them turned complete black and the plastic covers melted.

Thankfully no one was injured in the ordeal.
