A Naxxar activist has handed out medals to five people in recognition of their love for their hometown and their years of devoted involvement.

Clifford Galea launched Unur Inħobb in-Naxxar at Palazzo Parisio last weekend, where he handed the medals to Antoinette Cachia, Duminku Chircop, David Agius, Jonathan Gauci, and Martin Attard.

The medals, crafted by Mvintage, include a design of the iconic Naxxar parish church bellotowers.

“I love Christmas and feel more creative during this period,” Galea said. “Those who know me know what I’m passionate about, and that includes the festa and my dear hometown of Naxxar.”

Galea is president of the Northern Regional Council, after contesting with PL, and a former minority leader of the Naxxar local council, but launched Unur Inħobb in-Naxxar as a personal initiative.

He said he plans to turn this into an annual event, honouring more people every year.

Antoinette Cachia is a Naxxar Lions FC super-fan, who rarely misses a game and who has even washed the players’ kits. She attends most local events and even sold her Mosta house to be able to purchase a Naxxar home with a flag mast.

Duminku Chircop is president of the PL’s Naxxar club and a longtime Naxxar enthusiast, which included activism with Naxxar Lions FC and promoting the town to tourists during his previous work for Captain Morgan.

David Agius is a longtime Peace Band Club activist who has helped out with village feasts and church decorations.

Jonathan Gauci is the sexton’s brother, giving continuous service to the collegiate church and volunteering his time to decorate Naxxar for the annual festa.

Martin Attard has been described by Galea as a “Naxxar icon”, for his involvement in Naxxar Lions FC, his regular promotion of Naxxar on social media and his encouragement to youths.

It doesn’t mean that other people didn’t deserve it or that their work is less important. Maturely, there will be more people added every year,” Galea said.
