Donald Cassar has since said he is good friends with John Schembri, the mayor of Luqa

Donald Cassar, the Luqa deputy mayor, said he was ‘hacked’ after several posts calling a Maltese parliamentary secretary and his father a pufta, among other vulgarities, appeared on his profile.

Messages such as “Silvio Schembri pufta kollu hu u missieru,”, “Daħal Mr Silvio Schembri missu Ħal-Farrug lussu basta ħafna nejk Silvio Ħal-Farrug baqa l-istess. Action king,” and “Ħal-Farrug is calling. Irbaħna l-elezzjoni u n-nies għadhom bix-xenqa. Sindku mur naqa s’hemm pls grazzi,” all appeared on Cassar’s Facebook page.

At least six different messages in this vein were posted in quick succession following the results from the recent local council elections.

Silvio Schembri’s father is John Schembri, the mayor of Luqa. Donald Cassar is currently the deputy mayor of Luqa.

The posts, which featured offensive language on a heart-themed background, appeared in quick succession, with some garnering tens of likes within minutes.

Speaking to Lovin Malta, Mr Cassar condemned the comments, calling them “disgusting” and saying his password had been “hacked”

Cassar said he became aware of the comments when people began calling him up and asking about the posts. Upon seeing the posts, he deleted them and reported them to Facebook.

When asked whether he would be making a police report over his Facebook account getting hacked, he said he didn’t see a reason to.

He lamented how people would try to cause “damage” to his name, and said he had a good relationship with Silvio Schembri and his father John.

When contacted by Lovin Malta, Silvio Schembri declined to comment on the situation.
