WIN: The Only Exciting Blackout! Malta’s Panto In The Dark Is Back With A Bang

The Christmas season is about to get a little bit darker, in the very best of ways. Panto in the Dark is making its return for a magical night of storytelling, music and exploring the senses.

Inspired by the Christmasiest drink on the island, imbuljuta, Panto in the Dark is a new take on the traditional Christmas pantomime that you watch without using your eyes.

L-Imbuljuta tells the story of a single mother who needs to get creative in order to pay her rent

We don’t want to spoil anything, but we feel like the solution to her problem might lie in a warm, citrusy, chestnutty, chocolatey drink.

If you don’t know what imbuljuta is, it’s a hot drink that is traditionally served in Malta on Christmas Eve after Midnight Mass, and sometimes also on New Year’s Eve. It typically is made of cocoa powder, chestnuts, cloves, and citrus zest. Cinnamon and alcohol are sometimes added in for an extra kick.

Panto in the Dark premiered in Malta last Christmas

In an attempt to bring the traditional Christmas panto to a new demographic of audiences, Panto in the Dark engages every single sense of the audience members; except their sight.

The story is told through the use of sound, smell, and touch, while audiences sit in pitch-black darkness with only a pair of headphones to guide them.

Last year’s cast will be making a return to the ‘stage’ for L-Imbuljuta, with Chucky Bartolo as Dame and Samuel Farrugia as Principal Boy, joined by Davinia Hamilton and Joseph Zammit, and the story written and directed by Marta Vella and Vikesh Godwhani.

If you want to experience some imbuljuta inspired magic this Christmas, we have a pair of tickets to give away

If you want to get your hands on the tickets, all you have to do is tell us who you’d take with you to Panto in the Dark by tagging them on the comments below. One lucky Lovin reader will then be picked at random and you’ll be off for a night of magic and chestnuts.
