The start of the new year often symbolises a fresh start; a new page filled with hope, aspirations, and goals to work towards.

So we’ve asked some of Malta’s politicians and personalities for one thing they hope for in 2024.

Joseph Muscat

“Truth.”

Bernard Grech

“In 2024, I’ll put all my efforts towards getting back the 400 million, that we as a nation have been robbed due to the corrupt hospital deal.”

Peppi Azzopardi

“That Maltese artists become the voice of protest, the voice of conscience. They’re comfortable singing against bullying, but uncomfortable writing a song about the 4-year-old girl who the government let die of thirst in the Maltese rescue zone. Maria Bella in X Factor was an example. Thank you, Maria.”

Owen Bonnici

“In 2024, my heartfelt wish is for a just and sustainable peaceful resolution to the ongoing wars between Palestine and Israel, as well as Ukraine and Russia. I believe this aspiration is shared by many.”

Byron Camilleri

“International peace. It is mind-blowing that currently, there are more than thirty conflicts going on in the world. Most of the continents are seeing bloodshed of innocents because of state-on-state conflicts, civil wars, terrorist insurgencies, drug wars, ethnic violence, and civil wars.”

“In Europe, the Russo-Ukrainian war sees no prospect of peace, and in the Middle East, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is still raging with no end in sight. At a time when we are enjoying the Christmas and New Year’s holidays with families and loved ones, other human beings are being killed, and for what?”

Aaron Farrugia

“That the next 12 months can open a path for a just and lasting peace.”

James Ryder

“Launch an advertising agency, and provide more support to cat shelters around Malta.”

Ian Borg

“End wars in Ukraine and Israel.”

Roberta Metsola

“That people vote in the June 2024 European Parliament elections.”

Alex Borg

“As a country is to have prosperity make it to those who have been left behind. As a country, we articulate and emphasise economic growth figures but we rarely discuss the divergence between the most wealthy and the others at the far end who can barely make ends meet at the end of the month.”

“We have over 90k people who straddle the poverty line. We prosper as a country when no one is left behind.”

Robert Abela

“That Peace is restored wherever there are wars and conflicts.”

Miriam Dalli

“More time with my loved ones.”
