Plastic Bottles And Bras: Archbishop Of Malta Saddened By The Polluted State Of Xemxija Seabed
A series of photos showing a rubbish-ridden Xemxija Bay drew the attention of Archbishop Charles Scicluna last week who was saddened by the sorry sight.
“Recent photos of the state of the seabed at Xemxija Bay brought sadness and consternation,” he said in a Twitter post.
Recent photos of the state of the seabed at Xemxija Bay, #Malta (by Jon Borg) brought sadness and consternation. Kudos to those of us concerned and committed in cleanup efforts. But we should all be the first people to act responsibly and avoid this tragic filthy mess. pic.twitter.com/1CvmME3s7x

The photos taken by Jon Borg show the shocking state of the seabed which has been littered with the common sight of plastic water bottles along with more unusual objects such as bras.
“Kudos to those of us concerned and committed to cleanup efforts. But we should all be the first people to act responsibly and avoid this tragic filthy mess,” he ended.
While Malta might have some pristine, clear waters, what lies on the seabed is far from ideal and is truly a tragic filthy mess as can be seen from these photos.
On the other hand, above sea level fares no better with photos emerging of Tigne Seafront earlier today showing the absolutely disgusting state that people left the beaches in after last weekend.
Bottles, bags and a copious amount of McDonald’s litter were left behind forcing the person who took the photo to leave the beach.
Malta might be fighting the COVID-19 pandemic but other issues such as environmental pollution shouldn’t be brushed aside.
