In the age of technology and personal devices, spending time with friends and family without a screen in sight is a rare thing. It’s not always easy to find fun and original things to do that make everyone happy.

Luckily, we are in for a treat this month. An international show is about to arrive at Teatru Manoel that will be a night to remember for the whole family!

The Opera Locos combines opera hits with rock and pop classics in a unique family-friendly spectacle.

It features a troupe of five eccentric and exceptional lyrical singers, as they perform a repertoire of the greatest composers of their genre – with an unusual twist. Cleverly fusing these well-known opera hits with rock and pop classics in the most original way, the performers reveal their hidden passions and desires throughout the show, with unpredictable and hilarious consequences.

Locos by name and crazy by nature, the comic opera show’s fresh blend of physical comedy, musical performance and inventive staging creates a truly spectacular experience and pushes opera closer to audiences of all ages worldwide.

“We can’t wait to welcome The Opera Locos to Teatru Manoel on 11th December,” said Creative Artist Antoine Farrugia.

“This is a unique opportunity for both opera-lovers and genre newbies in Malta to experience a fantastic show from this Madrid-based company, with professional opera singers serving both comedy and spectacle in an interactive and genius production.”

The Opera Locos was named Best Musical at The Max Awards for the Performing Arts in 2019 – Spain’s equivalent to the Tony Awards or the UK’s Laurence Olivier Award,  and has received rave reviews in more than 300 cities across Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Operatic hits including music from The Magic Flute, The Barber of Seville, La Traviata, Turandot are accompanied by hilarious and breath-taking physical theatre.

The Opera Locos will perform at Teatru Manoel on 11 December at 6pm and 8.30pm. Shows last approximately 85 minutes and is suitable for audiences aged six and over.
