Songs For A Transfigured Heart: Claire Tonna Returns With Live Concert In Aid Of Queer Community In Kenya

Singer and songwriter Claire Tonna has returned with a stripped-down concert aimed at raising funds to go towards a project to help the queer community in Kenya.

The concert is happening later this week on Friday 21st October at Offbeat in Valletta, with Claire announcing today that it has just sold out.

“I’m doing this concert to raise funds to support ongoing work by queer people in Kenya who are challenging narratives of structural homophobia and hateful violations constantly,” Claire told Lovin Malta.

In Kenya, it is illegal to be homosexual, and all art or expression related to the community is constantly censored.

“I have been there and I am going there again at the end of this month. I am working on this project through these concerts to promote the power of our hearts and the power we have to help each other because really only kindness can help this world,” Claire continued.

The concert will be recorded, with the final video to be used to raise funds for the project to ultimately give a voice to LGBTIQ+ platforms in Kenya.

“Humanity is a chain: we need each other’s kindness, we need each other’s courage, we need each other’s wellness we need each other’s good decisions, to bring back and cultivate faith in this human village we are all over the world,” Claire beautifully expressed.

“We are not as separated as we think or feel we are. A trans-figurative heart is truly needed, we shall awake that in each one of us and for all around us. What else is worth manifesting?”

“We are all tired and often depleted from feeling alone and separated, and there is no better time to support each other than right now. It is through our togetherness that can rebuild a stronger place in who we are and a better place for all of us to be wherever we are and we try to breathe.”

This concert is also being supported by The Unconventional Office and Stretta beer – and of course, anyone that is willing to support the cause.

Stay tuned for the concert video which will then be used for fundraising!
