Stellar Maltese Sailing Crew Wins Annual International Solaris Cup In Sardinia

Maltese Sailor Jamie Sammut’s crew recently won the much-awaited Solaris Cup competition for 2023, held over the last weekend of the month of May.

The competition is organised annually, and for its 9th edition, it was held in Porto Rotondo, Sardinia.

Sammut’s winning boat, called Unica, had a bad start due to its small size when compared to the other 58 boats which were competing. And yet, they still emerged victorious!

The competition included two separate races – during the second race, Unica was close to coming in second, but managed to beat the other boat, Doug, by only two minutes, “to win the event they would have to come in first, second place was not good enough for an overall win”.

“By making the right tactical decisions and managing to keep to where the wind was, they ended the race in first place with a good lead,” they expressed in their press release.

Unica’s crew is the crème de la crème of the sailing field, with a brilliant crew, which includes Bradshaw Kellet, Michael Albanozzo, Gordon Schembri, Alex Sant Fournier, Alan Sammut, Aaron Gauci, and John Cachia. And last but not least, the skipper himself, Jamie Sammut.
