Street Art, Clubbing And Debates: A New Venue In Sliema Could Be Your New Favourite Hangout
A new alternative venue has opened up just below Tigné Point, and it’s already making waves. Cloudberry has already hosted Berlin techno raves, cannabis legalisation discussions and hip hop dance classes, and it’s barely been open for a month.
Adrien Icardi, one of the venue’s founders and the creative push behind the new location, told Lovin Malta that he and his team wanted to create a place to celebrate the cross-section that modern youth culture finds itself at.
“Cloudberry is an alternative indoor/outdoor venue, with the most Iconic view of Valetta right in front. It’s a place to meet the cool people of Sliema, with a very wide range of events,” Adrien said.
“A new venue in the heart of Sliema,” he continued, “it’s a place for art, culture, and socialisation – it’s a place to share and meet. I’m especially looking forward to create a bridge between Maltese and foreigners to meet, share, drink and party together.”
With street art covering the walls of the venue – which features a fully stocked bar as well as a club sound system – the team is looking forward to hosting a wide variety of events.
“From nightclub events, to live acoustic artists to workshops to cultural nights, Cloudberry will be open as a bar every day, and as a nightclub on the Friday and Saturdays,” he said.
“And during the summertime the pool will be open, and on Sundays we will have a ‘Brunch and Artist’ live session.”
“We want to offer a place for all in Sliema”
The Cloudberry team were very aware that The Funky Monkey, one of the area’s most popular alternative clubs just down the road, will be closing down shortly. When asked about the Gżira boċċi club, Icardi replied: “Cloudberry will be a similar idea, except with a way higher standard, and with big events with big promoters from Europe, from London, Paris, and Berlin.”
Indeed, all the street art found on the walls were done by three street artists from Berlin.
With everything from romantic events, hip hop and grime parties, and even an ugly sweater party lined up for December, Cloudberry might soon begin to make a serious mark on the Maltese entertainment scene.
