Swimmers Advised To Avoid Birżebbuġa Bay Due To Sewage Overflow

The Environmental Health Directorate has issued a warning for bathers to refrain from swimming at a bay in Birżebbuġa due to sewage overflow.

The overflow was located along Triq Ferretti, in Birżebbuġa, with the site code marked as A11. Signs have been affixed in the area to notify bathers. 

“According to the Bathing Water Directive, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to notify that until further notice bathing is not recommended due to sewage overflow affecting the bathing water quality and presenting a risk to bathers’ health.”

“The EHOs are investigating to determine the source of contamination. The duration of the contamination cannot be predicted at this stage.”
