Tarragon, one of Malta’s most renowned fine dining restaurants, has closed its doors and is set to relocate from St Paul’s Bay to Valletta.

Chef Marvin Gauci, who opened Tarragon in 2007, told Lovin Malta that his new restaurant will be located at a palazzo in Old Bakery Street, Valletta, and could open its doors to the public in the first quarter of 2024.

“I don’t yet know whether the new restaurant will also be called Tarragon, whether it will have a twist on the name, or whether it will be completely renamed,” he said.

“The menu will be similar to Tarragon’s but revised.”

He said the new restaurant will be “one-of a kind” and a “complete upgrade” of the St Paul’s Bay restaurant.

“It will be a beautiful, housed within a 27-room palazzo, with a restauarnt and a huge private room at street level, as well as a club at semi-street level.”

Meanwhile Gauci has relocated some of Tarragon’s staff to his other restaurants, including Don Royale, Caviar and Bull, and Susurrus in St Julian’s.

Since opening its doors in 2007, Tarragon has won more food awards than any other Maltese restaurant. It was recently awarded the top overall Maltese restaurant for 2020 at The Definitive(ly) Good Guide to Restaurants awards and the best fine wine list at this year’s edition of the award show.
