An artist that shook up Malta’s approach to religious imagery by including the features of local migrant workers in his portraits has released more modern takes on classic stories – and they are turning heads once again.

After Manuel Farrugia’s take on Lassana Cisse in a religious setting led to a national discussion on the scope of religious art in his Modern Acts of Mercy series, his latest visuals continue on his eye-catching approach to painting.

Unveiling the images that are part of the ‘Fejn Hu Huk?’ series, Farrugia said that the paintings were an exploration of realities seen every day in Maltese society.

“These pictures represent the Acts of Mercy in a modern setting. I hope that when one looks upon these images, they remember that Jesus is hidden in each and every one of us.”
