Family Of Man Who Went Missing In Malta Launch Fresh Plea For Information As Search Continues Three Years On

Ever since 60-year-old Tom Stewart went missing after escaping from Mount Carmel back in 2016, his family have been searching for him high and low. They’re now making a fresh plea for any information on his whereabouts and we’re hoping you can help.

Tom voluntarily entered Mount Carmel Hospital after climbing over the walls.

Despite Malta’s small size, and the fact that most people reported missing are found very quickly, there were only two possible sightings of Tom over 2016.

The first was from Tom’s old neighbours, who said they had spoken to him at a bus stop just a couple of days after his disappearance was reported. And another from an anonymous member of the public who claimed they had spotted Tom in a supermarket on the island.

One year down the line, there were no further updates. Skip to three years since his disappearance and we’ve checked in with his family to find out if there have been any developments.

In 2017, Tom’s wife Phyllis has set the intention of searching each locality in Malta to track her husband down. Since then, Tom’s niece Stephanie has been appealing online for information and has even set up a Facebook group to help collate everything.

Stephanie has also posted up-to-date posters with information based on Tom’s presumed current state.

Stephanie told Lovin Malta that since the latest appeal, sightings of a man matching Tom’s description have been pouring in from areas within Qormi and Marsaskala and some have even said he’s been spotted near the airport.

“One person also mentioned a man they had spoken to matching his description had told them he had diabetes,” which Tom does suffer from, his niece went on to explain. The source added that the man had said he had been in Malta for over four years – which also lines up with Tom’s story.

Stephanie’s father regularly visits Malta to help search for his brother, but the family do stress that because they live so far away in the UK it is hard for them to reach the Maltese public.
