Jamie Cardona’s Show Breaks Record As Longest Running Theatre Performance
Jamie Cardona’s Mid-Djarju ta’ Student fi Skola tal-Knisja just set a new national record as Malta’s longest-running theatre show.
In this one-man show, Cardona portrays himself alongside several other characters, sharing the humorous and heartfelt story of his teenage years in a Maltese church school. Guided by entries from his diary, audiences follow his journey through existential questions, moral dilemmas, adolescent insecurities, and comedic ventures.
Directed by Vikesh Godhwani and written by Jamie himself, this comedy has struck a strong chord, offering a funny and relatable glimpse into Maltese adolescence and sparking enthusiastic responses from audiences of all ages. Its popularity highlights a growing appreciation for locally-produced theatre and showcases the ability of Maltese productions to forge meaningful connections with audiences. The show captures the insecurities of Maltese youth and the universal, often awkward journey of self-discovery.
Since its debut in April 2024, the show has captivated audiences across the nation, achieving sold-out status at each performance. With newly scheduled dates in January 2025, this unprecedented success will bring the total count to an impressive 53 performances, setting a new benchmark in Maltese theatre.
Malta Records will honour this historic accomplishment by presenting Cardona with an official certification during the January performances, marking Mid-Djarju ta’ Student fi Skola tal-Knisja’s impact on local theatre and its ability to draw thousands to the stage.
As demand continues, the production team has pledged to extend the show’s run as long as tickets continue to sell out.
