This is how you spell 'eventful'
October is the month when a lot of people start slowly getting back into the gloom of winter. Schools, colleges and university restarts, going out clubbing on weekdays starts getting rarer and rarer, and everyone's spirits are slightly damper compared to the beautiful hundred days of summer. We're here to show you that this year, it doesn't have to be that way, and if anything, there's even more to do - practically each and every day! When the first day of the month is Notte Bianca and the last is Halloween, you know you're in for a big one, and here's our rundown of everything that's going down this October:
3 - 7 October: Freshers' Week 2016
It's that time of the year again - if you're actually a fresher, make sure to get acquainted with everything you need to know to kick off this amazing adventure ahead of you. If you're not, get ready to take home all the freebies. Fresher's Week is here baby.
5 October: This Is The End Jamming Session
As the title suggests, this will be the last jamming session at KefaKafe to mark the end of summer, so make the most of it!
6 - 9 October: Birgu Fest 2016
Showing off one of the most beautiful cities in Malta with a wide variety of events all over (culminating in the Birgu Fest By Candlelight Night on Saturday 8th October), check out the full programme here.
7 - 9 October: Malta Tattoo Expo 2016
Promising to bring not only the best local tattoo artists under one roof but also some big international names in the industry, be sure not to miss out on the return of the Malta Tattoo Expo 2016.
8 October: Jonas Kopp @ Liquid
The Argentinian contemporary house / techno producer, remixer and performer will be gracing the island with an appearance this month at Liquid Club along with a bunch of talented locals. Here's some more info; get ready to go hard or go home.
9 October: Ġenna ta' Ġonna 2016 Goes Underground
For this year's edition of Ġenna ta' Ġonna, the picture stories on Floriana's gardens and the exhibits of mummified bodies of priests will also be upped by the opening of the only underground station of The Malta Railway - the Floriana stop. Entrance is free and no tickets or booking is required, so be sure not to miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity. More info here.
9 October: Fjakkolata - A Festival of Lights
If you happen to be on Malta's sister island on the 9th instead, then be sure to check out Gozo's Fjakkolata. Beautiful scenery and unforgettable sights guaranteed. Here's more on that.
13 October: Inside Skin Book Launch
A collaborative project between poet Miriam Calleja and photographer Zvezdan Reljic sees its publishing debut. Facebook event deets here.
13 - 16 October: The Valletta Boat Show 2016
Showing off 70 of the most luxurious display of boats from the best of the yachting world, the ninth edition of the Valletta Boat Show will be held at Dock 1 in Cospicua. If you're looking for the ultimate dreamboat, you're probably going to find it here.
14 - 16 October: Statix Festival 2016
Two days of techno, house, electro, psy, bass and more, brought to you by over 40 amazing local artists (including Acidulant, whose new music video is above). Tickets are selling very fast and you do not want to miss this - here's everything you need to know.
15 October: Rock & Rave Through Time & Space
Are you more of an 80s kind of dude? Or 70s? How about 60s? Or 50s?! One long night this month is promising to take you down a very long trip down memory lane, playing hottest tracks of the last SIXTY FIVE years. Cheese or no cheese, if it's good, it's going to have to be played, and Zion's the place for that to happen this mid-October. They've even got a handy little poll going for the playlist to slowly start being formed by the attendees themselves! Full event info here.
15 October: Sian Bennett @ The Playground
If electronic music is more your thing, then it's going to be another busy weekend for you. Zone Music's 2016 Season Closing features Sian Bennett (e1even records) and a long lineup of local heavyweights, all at The Playground in Paceville. Whoop - check it out!
16 October: Military Mtarfa (+ Guinness World Record Attempt!)

21 October: The Malta Doom Metal Festival 2016
Yes, for the first time, there was a gap of five days where we didn't include any events for October. That's only to get you geared up for the final event-heavy stretch though, and kicking that off in style is the 8th edition of the Malta Doom Metal Festival, a two-day metalfest in Buskett. Fifteen of the heaviest bands from around the world - get ready to own the moshpit. Full event info here.

22 October: The Rolex Middlesea Race Start
One of the most beautiful yachting race courses in the world is in the Mediterranean, and the 606-mile route starts and ends in our very own Grand Harbour. Visit the event's official website for more info on this year's edition (together with some breathtaking shots of previous ones).
28 October: Stand-Up Comedy Night
The Eden Comedy Club is back for its 15th Stand Up Comedy Night, this time with Jeremy O'Donnell, Alan Francis, and of course resident MC Geoff Whiting. Book your tickets now here.
29 October: Diá De Los Muertos
A Halloween Special on Manoel Island featuring Madrid-based Ruth Garcia (From Hell) on the decks, along with Malta's very own KNTRL and The Chemist. Dark, tequila-infused fun all night along. Event info right here yo.
30 October: Freedom Riders Malta 5th Anniversary
