TW+CW: Photos of dead animals that readers might find distressing.

More attacks on cats have been reported in Sliema and other areas around the island by animal activists, as more reports are surfacing from these recent events.

Animal Activist and Real Animal Rights Foundation member, Dr Romina Frendo, has taken to social media to say how she received calls on attacks that occurred around the eastern side of the island, in the port area. Similar injuries were discovered in all of the cats: severe facial injuries, missing tongues, and partially severed tails.

“One found with a broken face but survived Bieb il-Bombi (one was mutilated identical to Sliema and Gżira) and another cat survived from an attack in Valletta who was found as early as May,” wrote Frendo.

The first attacks were reported on Saturday 7th June when a black and white cat was found dead in a box in Sliema. Initially, the residents that saw the first attacks have claimed to have interacted with a group of boys who were being cruel to cats in Sliema. However, as one of the photos uploaded by Frendo suggests, these acts of animal cruelty might be bigger than initially perceived, as an adult was caught by CCTV grabbing a cat by its tail.

Frendo wrote that she received three calls on murders in Valletta around the Evans building, around Mina, around fast ferry area and in front of the ex policy academy area. In Bormla, attacks were reported around Polverista street.

Frendo went on to appeal the public to pass on any information to RAR or to the police. She even appealed for residents in the areas, where the attacks took place, to check their CCTV footage for any evidence.

“I repeat. Keep friendly cats/pets INSIDE,” wrote Frendo on Facebook.

Several reports have been made to Animal Welfare Malta and to the police and investigations are underway. RAR are also offering a €1000 reward to anyone that comes forward with information that could lead to the capture of the attacker/s.

Lovin Malta reached out to the police to the police for more information on these recent attacks.
