Yorgen Fenech, the main suspect in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, is in hospital, Lovin Malta can confirm.

Sources told Lovin Malta that Fenech was admitted to Hospital at around 1pm with chest pains. The doctor who referred him to hospital has not yet been named.

On Thursday evening, Fenech was released briefly on police bail, before being placed under arrest once again on Friday at around noon.

Fenech was first arrested on Wednesday morning as he tried to flee Malta. He has yet to be charged with any crime. Well informed sources have since told Lovin Malta that he has requested a presidential pardon. It is unknown at this stage what information Fenech is willing to provide in return for the pardon.

Lovin Malta asked Joseph Muscat about the possibility of Fenech requesting a pardon in exchange for crucial information on corruption, but the Prime Minister refused to entertain the question. “I think it’s very premature to say that. Obviously, there are always conditions…so, I am not entertaining any issue on whether there is a further request for a pardon,” he said.

“What’s obvious is that I don’t shelter anyone, I will do whatever is necessary, whenever it is necessary.”

Yesterday, Melvin Theuma, the suspected middleman who has handed over crucial evidence in exchange for a pardon, was also admitted to hospital. He was later released and once again placed under tight security.
